Tacoma Community House - Grant Writer

Title: Grant Writer

Department: Development and Communications

Job Summary: Tacoma Community House (TCH) seeks a part-time Grant Writer (24 hours/week) who will be responsible for writing of funding proposals, management of reporting and prospecting of additional funding.

The Grant Writer will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications and all Program Managers and will write proposals for both unrestricted operating revenue as well as restricted projects. They will also be responsible for submitting timely and accurate reports listing existing and future grant funded projects.


Specific Duties:
1. Handle all activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
2. Conduct prospect research on foundations and corporation grants for both unrestricted operating revenue and restricted projects.
3. Work with the Finance Department for reporting to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
4. Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation and corporate donors.
5. Understanding of institutional history and programs.
6. Maintain current records in Raisers Edge database and in paper files; including grant tracking and reporting.
7. Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (client demographics, program attendance, etc.)
8. Other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience
A proven track record in the field of grant writing and development.
Background in responding to the funding needs of program staff.


Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to promote a vision, communicate a strategy, and inspire both colleagues and volunteers.
* Ability to forge solid personal relationships with public and private funders.
* Ability to clearly and convincingly articulate Tacoma Community House’s vision to current and potential supporters.
* Ability to envision, strategize, plan, and execute in a complex institutional environment.
* Knowledge of creativity in the use of fundraising systems for research and tracking purposes.
* Knowledge of PC operations and standard software packages as well as database experience, with The Raisers Edge experience desirable.

Physical Requirements
* Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
* Manual dexterity to include light lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching.


Position Requirements
Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly wage of $20.46 plus a pro-rated benefits package which may include: medical, dental, vision, pension, life and long-term disability insurance, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation plan.
