This is a Grant Funded position. 
Dates of employment: Upon hire through August 31, 2015

Due to grant requirements, applicant must have verifiable training, education, or experience in emergency management, which may be evidenced by completion of FEMA’s Professional Develop Series, a college certificate or degree in emergency management, or at least one year of experience doing similar work in an emergency management environment.

This is a temporary, (20-30 hours per week) part-time position responsible for semi-routine clerical work with emphasis on, word processing, spreadsheets, data input, filing, and record keeping in support of emergency preparedness/operations activities.

 
 
PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Prepares written communications in the form of correspondence, reports, forms, fliers, and manuals and planning documents; enters and retrieves data; creates spreadsheets, presentations, and plans
  • Gathers data and maintains records related to grants, training, emergency plans, and reimbursement actions
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the emergency preparedness manager, to represent the interests of the City and provide information
  • During Emergency Coordination Center activations, may be required to work from that location in direct support of emergency operations
  • Facilitates internal and external training classes
  • Participates in exercise design, execution, and documentation.
  • Provides customer service by assisting the public over the telephone, answering inquiries or referring them to the appropriate staff person
  • Works courteously and effectively with public officials, citizens, volunteers, consultants, supervisor, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone; assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department
  • Handles messages and complaints from citizens in a polite and professional manner; determine nature of message or complaint and, if it cannot be resolved by the employee, refers it to the appropriate staff member
  • Operates a variety of computer programs to include word processing, spreadsheet and data base applications, graphics, mailing lists, and Outlook, to assist departmental activities
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent AND one year of related work experience required. Strong skills in MS Suite applications required. Skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Access and Adobe Creative Suites preferred.

Possesses and retains valid state driver's license throughout tenure of employment without impending loss required at time of appointment.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Works indoors in a clean, climate-controlled workspace.  Occasionally required to lift or move up to 30 pounds. Employee may be required to visit field sites which requires walking on rough, uneven terrain.  The employee occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl.  Employee is required to maintain confidentiality of information within the department. The employee may be required to deal with irate or disgruntled individuals requiring the use of conflict management skills.  Employee is required to maintain professional composure and tact, patience and courtesy at all times.
