Job Title: Laboratory Intern
Open position: Fall Internship: September 2015 – December 2015
Supervisors: Flavor Development, Analytical, & Applications Managers
Time Commitment: Weekly commitment of 15-29 hours per week. Duration 6 weeks to 6 months, agreed on upon hire. Actual schedule determined per selectee availability.
Qualifications:
1. Degree seeking student. Minimum of 20 hours of science coursework, with an emphasis in chemistry or biology. Junior or Senior preferred.
2. Sincere interest in learning and developing professionally in the field of applied science.
3. Team player with a positive attitude.
4. Ability to work both in groups and independently with accuracy on time-
sensitive projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Work with Lab Technicians in preparing samples for sensory evaluations.
2. Assist with gas chromatography sample preparation and analysis.
3. Collect spray dried production blends for microbial tests.
4. Assist with maintaining accurate laboratory records.
5. Prototype and evaluate flavors in consumer products (candy, oral care, chewing gum)
6. Sample oils from warehouse drums for outgoing requests and flavor development projects.
7. Assist in laboratory supply maintenance with Laboratory Technicians.
8. Provide assistance for special projects as needed.
Training: Orientation to the company and on the job training provided by permanent lab personnel.
Workspace: Primary duties performed throughout the laboratory. Desk space provided.
Compensation: $12/hr wage. No benefits package provided.
Breaks determined per actual schedule worked.
