Job Title: Plant Technology Intern

Open position(s): Summer Internship: May/June 2015 – August/September 2015
Supervisor(s): Chemist, Flavor Development and Technical Deputy Director

Time Commitment: Weekly commitment of 15-40 hours per week. Duration 6 weeks to 6 months, agreed on upon hire. Actual schedule determined per selectee availability.

Qualifications:
1. Degree seeking student. Minimum of 20 hours of science coursework, with an emphasis in chemistry, biology, or botany. Junior or Senior preferred.
2. Sincere interest in learning and developing professionally in the field of applied science.
3. Team player with a positive attitude.
4. Ability to work both in groups and independently with accuracy on time-
sensitive projects.

Responsibilities:
1. Maintain Greenhouse collection of Mentha varieties (100+ plants) by trimming plants, surveying for pests and disease, monitoring soil moisture and irrigation, and cleaning floors/benches.
2. Photograph each variety and measure vigor at regular intervals.
3. Water and take measurements of each plant variety at precise intervals.
4. Prepare media, sterilize equipment, and generate tissue testing samples.
5. Monitor, interpret, and record the results of various tests.
6. Provide assistance for special projects as needed.

Training: Orientation to the company and on the job training provided by permanent lab personnel. Weekly review to be provided by supervisors.

Workspace: Primary duties performed within the Greenhouse. Desk space provided at main office for analysis and reporting of test results.

Compensation: $12/hr wage. No benefits package provided.

Breaks determined per actual schedule worked.
