Description:

St. Mike’s Tikes is the oldest licensed child care center in Thurston County, established in 1978. Nurturing care and quality early learning opportunities are provided to all children from all families. St. Mike’s Tikes provides care for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. The dedicated, trained teaching staff build strong relationships with the children and their families. Classroom curricula are designed to meet the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and personal needs of each child. Parents have many opportunities to participate in their child’s education and parent involvement in encouraged. We strive to celebrate the differences while seeking to build relationships with diverse families on foundations of mutual respect.
Position
Description:

Responsible for providing a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment for children where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged and individuality respected. The center will serve children of all cultures and income levels.
Essential
Functions: * Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of St. Mike’s Tikes. * Customize the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, special needs and talents, individual style, and pace of learning. * Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socio-economic background. * Treat children with dignity and respect. * Help children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group. * Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom. * Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff. * Attend all staff meetings. * Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth. * Implement methods of effectively utilizing the services of classroom assistants. * Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents. * Conduct parent conferences on children’s school adjustment and classroom behavior. * Assist in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children. * Assist in public relations events sponsored by St. Mike’s Tikes and CCS. * Maintain good hygiene, including diaper checks for infants and toddlers, ages ranging between 6 weeks and 12 years. * Other duties as may be reasonable assigned.
Job Requirements: * High school education or the equivalent. * 2 years professional child care experience. * 18 years or older * Child development knowledge and experience. * Has completed one of the following: a) Twenty clock hours or two college quarter credits of basic training. Training shall be approved by the Washington state training and registry system (Washington STARS); or b) Current child development associate (CDA) or equivalent credential or twelve or more college quarter credits in early childhood education or child development; or c) Associate of arts (AA) or associate of applied science (AAS) or higher college degree in early childhood education or child development. * Ability to relate well to both children and adults. * Ability to work with people of diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. * Ability to lift 50lbs. * TB record * Registered through MERIT through the Department of Early Learning or ability to do so after hire. * DEL Background check. * Current CPR/First Aid Training Certificate. * Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. * Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract) * Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment. * Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services * Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork * Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
