Small Tacoma Area Firm Hiring Legal Assistant
Firm specializes in family law, criminal law, and personal injury.
Job Responsibilities:
* To enhance attorney effectiveness and assist in basic office duties.
Job Duties (may include but are not limited to):
* Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files
* Monitors calendars; schedules meetings, settlement conferences, hearings, trial dates, etc.
* Tracks and ensures the court’s case deadlines are met
* Documents actions taken on each case
* Inputs information into file database and case management software
* Confirms case status with attorney
* Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with clients, opposing parties, judicial assistants, etc.
* Drafts various pleadings
* Drafts letters and documents
* Files electronically with the courts, as well as via legal messenger
* Prepares trial binders
* Welcomes guests and clients by greeting them in person or on the phone
* Answers and/or directs inquiries
* Produces information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, copying text
* Conserves attorney time by reading, reviewing, verifying and routing correspondence
* Maintains client confidence by keeping client/attorney information confidential
* Maintains office supplies by checking stocks, placing orders
Job Requirements:
* Must be proficient in basic reading/writing/math skills
* Must be proficient in use of Windows Operating System
* Basic word processing skills (Word, Excel)
* Ability to operate office equipment
* 2 years of relevant experience or post-secondary education
Please note: Experience is not necessary but must supplement with education, does not have to be law-specific. Must be available Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm. Pay starts at $14/hr.
