Program Description:
- The Grays Harbor Youth Center is a resource and service center for the youth of Grays Harbor County. The center provides information and referral services for youth in Grays Harbor County, and a safe place (overnight services) for teens who find themselves without a place to spend the night.
Position Description:
- Youth Workers will work night shifts ranging from 3 – 12 hours, supervising high-school age youth. Youth Workers will provide information and referral to youth in the facility; supervise their activities, including recreational activities, while ensuring their safety and security. Youth Workers may also supervise program volunteers or interns working the same shift.
Essential Functions:
- Provide intake, orientation, information and referral services to clients.
- Maintain appropriate relationships with youth.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of local services available.
- Communicate and enforce program policies and procedures.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of program and agency policies and procedures.
- Provides effective orientation to youth, interns, and volunteers.
- Provides verbal and written reinforcement of policies and procedures as needed.
- Work to foster an attitude of support and safety for residents.
- Respect confidentiality
- Encourage mutual respect
- Listen and respond to concerns
- Monitor facility to ensure safety
- Maintain client files, logs and other records.
- Conforms to policies relating to recordkeeping
- Performs and logs bed checks as required
- Model and teach independent and interactive living skills
- Maintain an appropriate and professional demeanor
- Speaks openly and honestly with youth
- Foster mutual respect and admiration among staff, interns, volunteers and clients
- Responsible for developing and safekeeping a workplace which values and supports a culturally diverse work environment.
- Keep facility clean and in good working condition
- Keep Shelter Program Supervisor informed regarding shelter events.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 21 years of age (per state licensing requirements)
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated multi-cultural sensitivity, supervisory experience, teambuilding skills, record-keeping and multi-tasking abilities, and ability to be flexible and prioritize needs as they arise.
- One year of experience working with adolescents
- Knowledge and expertise in Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol related issues.
- Able to successfully complete DSHS background check, HIV/AIDS/Blood Bourne Pathogen training, maintain first aid and CPR certification, and complete a tuberculin skin test (per state licensing requirements)
- Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.
- Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, with no prior DUI convictions (required to provide current driving abstract)
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
- Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience supervising volunteers
