Position: Associate Director of TRiO Student Success
Division: Student Affairs
Reports to: Director of TRiO Student Success and College Access Programs
Special Note
This is a full-time, overtime-exempt grant position that is federally funded through August 31, 2020. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.
Position Purpose
The Associate Director of TRiO Student Success is responsible for developing and implementing culturally responsive programming and courses that are outcome-driven and promotes student success. In addition this leadership position will ensure a highly effective intrusive student advising model is delivered to first generation, low-income, and/or students with documented disabilities. This position manages the daily operations of one federally funded TRiO grant. The Associate Director provides support and supervision for TRiO Student Success staff, maintains records of all program activities and outcomes, provides direct services to student participants, and ensures that services provided to TRiO Student Success students are aligned to the grant and adhere to federal regulations. The Associate Director of TRiO Student Success reports to the Director of TRiO Student Success and College Access Programs.
TRiO Student Success Description
Student Success is a U.S. Department of Education funded program designed to prepare underrepresented low-income and first generation college students with the tools necessary to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic and intrusive advising support to 180 students attending the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Additionally, a suite of college success courses that range from leadership to financial literacy to career pathways are offered to supplement the required intrusive advising sessions for students. Our program values the importance of providing students with contextual and real world guidance.
The Student Success program has been funded at the Evergreen State College since 1979. The current grant is in the first of a five year funding cycle. The program is contingent upon continued federal funding.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education, Social Services, Teaching, Educational Administration, Student Personnel Administration, or related area.
Two years of progressively responsible leadership supporting the success of underrepresented populations as a faculty or student affairs practitioner in the higher educational system.
Desired Qualifications
Grant management experience including areas such as successful grant writing, effective program development and evaluation, and budget management.
Experience teaching college success courses.
Knowledge and understanding of the backgrounds of the underrepresented populations served by the program.
