Here’s a unique 3-year project based opportunity to learn more about our enterprisewide services for customers with limited English proficiency (LEP) and be part of a high performing team. Bring your talents to L&I. Help keep the program running smoothly and seamlessly while working with staff at all levels of the agency.
As the Communications Consultant 4, you’ll plan, direct and implement extensive communications and public relations campaigns concerning L&I’s services to LEP customers. You will be working with business areas across the agency to update Spanish-language glossaries for use by translation vendors and agency staff. You will also serve as a reviewer of translations produced by bilingual staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the usage of commonly used agency terms.
Your support is critical to the agency’s goal of “Making it easy to do business with L&I” across agency divisions and programs.
Some of what you will do:
Oversee the implementation of an agencywide quality assurance process for document translation.
Review all content for the Spanish website.
Collaborate with division representatives to expand and continually update an English/Spanish glossary for commonly used terms at L&I.
Serve as the final reviewer of publications, template letters, media messaging and forms translated from English to Spanish.
Implement and monitor quality assurance processes for document translations.

Who should apply:
Bachelor’s degree in a social science or humanities.
Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Medical
Interpreter (includes both medical interpreter and medical certificated written test or
American Translator Association certification (English to Spanish). Certifications with a state or federal agency, other organizations including language agencies using the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) translation proficiency standards and/or an accredited institution of higher education may also be considered. Certification must be active and in good standing.
3 years’ minimum experience translating medical or health care-related documents.
Advanced writing skills in English and Spanish.
Ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop communication strategies and plans to develop interest, engagement, and a commitment to making it easy for customers with limited English proficiency to do business with L&I. Skilled at using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook for daily job duties. Demonstrated ability to collaborate as a team member in a high volume work environment under tight deadlines.
Impeccable attention to detail and ability to follow up on time sensitive assignments.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience managing contracts and vendor performance.
Experience translating legal documents.
Possess a legal translation credential in good standing with a state or federal court system, which includes successful completion of an examination or test of written language fluency in both English and Spanish.
Familiarity or a willingness to learn how to manage translation projects through SharePoint.
At least three years of experience living or working in a bilingual or multicultural environment.
