UW - Costa Rica Internship Summer 2015

Due to the popularity of the Costa Rica Field Studies in Ecology and Community study abroad program, the Office of International Programs has created a new internship opportunity to the same location in Costa Rica. Students will have the chance to travel to the rural village of Mastatal this summer to gain a deep understanding of the general principles and practices of sustainable farming, including permaculture, via hands-on experience at Siempre Verde and learn about farming techniques specific to subsistence agriculture in the tropics (e.g., composting, soil amendments, terracing/swale building, greenhouse plant production, living fences, etc.). This 5-credit internship will take place between July 26 - August 23 (Summer Quarter Term B) and will be supervised by John “Buck” Banks, PH.D., Director of the Office of International Programs and a Professor of Environmental Science, Division of Sciences and Mathematics (SAM), School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at UWT.
