Description:

Catholic Community Services, Homeless Adult Services (HAS) is the largest provider of adult homeless services in Tacoma, Washington. Nativity House (NH), a program of HAS, is the central hub to serve homeless adults in the Pierce County region. It operates 24-hour/7-day a week, offering services (emergency shelter, meals, systematic outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorder treatment, Employment Services, Spiritual Support, 50 units of permanent supportive housing, etc.) to meet the basic needs of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
Position
Description:

Assist individuals who are homeless and who present with mental health challenges in their journey toward treatment and/or recovery. Works as part of a team with Peer Specialists, Counselors, Social Workers, and Program Specialists in providing outreach and engagement services to engender trust and instill a sense of hope. Work occurs in a variety of settings, including meal sites, shelters, permanent housing and the streets. This is a professional position that will also provide therapeutic interventions including assessment, counseling and case management.

Functions: All CCS employees will demonstrate the ability to: * Communicate role, responsibility and agency philosophy in order to assure mutual respect, confidence and trust with the consumer and other stakeholders. * Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to the consumer. * Assess for immediate safety and stabilization needs. * Customize helping approaches to fit the consumer’s uniqueness, personality, culture and interest. * Report relevant information to the right people at the right time. * Maintain a focus on strengths, needs and creative solutions. * Utilize the consumer’s expertise in problem solving and solution seeking. * Work interdependently with others toward common goals. * Respond to consumer’s needs in a timely fashion. * Complete required documentation within established timeframes. * Instill hope for the future by communicating and behaving with confidence and reassurance. * Communicate effectively with other team members to manage triangulation and potential conflicts. The skilled clinician will demonstrate the ability to: * Meet and engage the consumer communicating compassion, support, respect and enthusiasm for them and your role as a helper. * Listen to the consumer’s story and, with them, identify strengths, needs, preferences and goals. * Provide and/or arrange necessary crisis response and stabilization services. * Complete the mental health intake, including a diagnostic assessment. * Respond to crises in a prompt, effective and collaborative manner. * Consult with, recommend and provide training to team members around specific interventions. * Provide and/or facilitate the provision of a range of therapeutic responses that support the overall direction for the consumer.
* Maintain a focus on strengths, needs and creative solutions and inspire others to follow this format in problem solving. * Partner with the consumer in order to assist them in utilizing the resources offered by formal and informal sources within their community.

Requirements:



Minimum Qualifications * Master’s degree in counseling, mental health counseling, social work, psychology, behavioral sciences or equivalent. * Certified Mental Health Professional as defined in WAC 388-877-0200 & WAC 388-865-0150. * At least 2 years of experience performing Mental Health Assessments using the DSM, and providing individual counseling, group counseling, and treatment planning for individuals identified as having Co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. * At least one year’s experience in working with or related to working with adults experiencing homelessness. * Certified Washington State Counselor (HIV/AIDS training required). * Proof of negative TB test within past 12 months and ability to test within first six months of employment. * Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment. * Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. * Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy.
