United Way of King County is seeking End Summer Hunger Campaign Corps members to be a part of a team to end childhood hunger in King County. We are seeking full time members to be a part of United Way's Summer Meals Campaign, a program to help children and teens access healthy meals during the summer. In King County, 100,000 low-income children and teenagers rely on free or discounted meals during the school year, but less than 20% access free meals during the summer. Serve the community this summer by partnering with meal sites across King County to deliver free meals and educational activities to children while concurrently developing meaningful professional and life skills.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be able to attend mandatory training from June 17th-19th
- Available 40 hours a week from June 22nd-August 25th. All dates mandatory
- Communicates professionally, both verbally and through writing
- Experience working with and engaging children
- Access to reliable transportation and willing to serve high needs communities in North and South King County, including Federal Way, Des Moines, Auburn, Renton, Tukwila, Highline,& Kent
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and have travel flexibility
- Corps members must pass a Washington State Patrol background check
- Able to provide proof of citizenship
- Willing to commit to fulltime AmeriCorps service for 8-10 weeks
- Vacation limited to 1-2 days during the program period
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Experience with community outreach and mobilization
- Foreign language skills, especially Spanish or East African languages
- Brings additional skills/interests to share with kids at sites
- Enthusiastic about using social media as an outreach tool
- Position requires someone who is high energy and outgoing
Benefits
- $1,069/mo living stipend
- $1,194.71 pro-rated Eli Segal AmeriCorps Education Award from National Service trust or a pro-rated summer cash stipend ($230-287, depending upon length of term)
