Job Summary & Responsibilities
Puget Sound Energy’s Energy & Derivative Accounting Department is looking for an Associate Accountant to join our team.
This role will work predominantly with power and gas settlement responsibilities to support wholesale trading operations.
This involves reconciling data, invoicing counterparties, and compiling data for internal and external reporting requirements. Additionally, this role will participate in daily and monthly basic accounting and analysis functions to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records. The ideal candidate will also confirm that SOX procedures and controls are being complied with and working according to documentation.

Job Responsibilities
• Perform power and gas settlement activities, analysis and billing functions.
• Set up and run daily, weekly, and monthly processes for invoicing, price inputs, deal calculation, and report generation.
• Bill and maintain physical and financial power accounts receivable and payable for monthly billing.
• Perform checkout (both mid-month and month-end for physical power) with counterparties to ensure accuracy of invoices and vouchers.
• Communicate with Power Supply Operations, Energy Marketing, and counterparties to resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Update Purchase & Sales Journal database for Treasury department cash flow analysis.
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts.
• Prepare internal, external, and regulatory financial reports.
• Comply with internal controls and actively update and test SOX 404 procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting and/or 0-2 years of relevant experience.
• Good verbal and written skills.
• Good PC skills (including Excel, Word, Access).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Utility experience, knowledge of power and gas transactions
• SAP system, FERC accounting
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
• Working towards Certified Public Accountant or candidate
