Description:

The International Foster Care program (IFC) provides a safe, nurturing foster care environment for children who have fled their countries of origin. This comprehensive set of services includes education, legal, social and psychological supports all directed at achieving safety, stability and healthy development. Children come to us as refugees, victims of trafficking and asylees from around the world, including the following countries of origin: Vietnam, Cambodia, China, the Sudan, Myanmar and Central America (El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala).
Position
Description:

In a structured classroom setting provide a variety of educational services designed to meet the unique needs of Unaccompanied Alien children in federal custody. This position will be working 2 days a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. Subjects include Math, Science, Computer Literacy, Nutrition and PE.
Essential
Functions: * Provide a comfortable, secure environment to meet the emotional, social, intellectual needs of immigrant foster youth ages 6-12 years. * Work with a team that provides a learning environment that reflects student’s accomplishments while using materials that reflect cultural diversity. * In coordination with the Educational Coordinator, develop academic curriculum in accordance with the Division of Children’s Services (DCS) policy/procedure manual; review and update when necessary. * Develop daily lesson plans along with teaching materials that are age appropriate, with focus on grade school level creative writing, nutrition, PE, social studies, science and math. * Follow program Policy/Procedure guidelines outlined in our manual. * Attend weekly staff meetings with the International Foster Care team. * Document weekly children’s accomplishments, goals and/or concerns on weekly education summaries. * Meet with Program Supervisor for training/support and supervision. * Communicates directly and effectively with other team members. * Access student’s achievements on a continuous basis with case managers. * Responsible for maintaining a workplace, which values and supports a culturally diverse work environment. * Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * BA/BS in Early Childhood Development or related field. * Bilingual in Spanish. * Experience working with children, preferably immigrants, in a group setting or classroom. * Experience in curriculum development for children. * Knowledge of early childhood development. * Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment. * Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and provide current auto registration. * Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract) * Proof of negative TB test upon hire or proof of test within past 12 months. * First/Aid CPR certified or the ability to become certified within the 1 month of employment * Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services * Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork * Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Certified teacher in the State of Washington or degree in Early Childhood Education.
