KIRO-TV Employment Opportunities


Following are the employment openings available at KIRO Television as of September 30, 2015.

MAINTENANCE ENGINEER (1514620)
This position requires expert knowledge of the overall television station from a technical standpoint.  Responsibilities include the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of the following: AVID INEWS newsroom automation systems, NLE editing systems, graphics systems, master control automation, video switchers, video routers, various tape recorder formats, ENG camera repair, high and low power transmitters, camera control system, camera robotics, audio mixers, broadcaster computer networks, Cisco LAN switches, and a good IT networking understanding.  This position requires a thorough understanding of digital and analog systems within a television station and industry standards.  Applicants must have experience in the set-up and networking of computers and a solid understanding of computer OS applications, FTP applications and digital video formats. 
Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in TV engineering which must include a strong IT background.  A college degree with an emphasis in Broadcast or IT is a plus.  Applicant must also have a valid Washington State driver’s license.
You must have the ability to lift 50 plus pounds, work in confined areas and have the willingness to work all shifts including holidays, as needed.  Must work well independently as well as in a team environment.

MANAGER OF COVERAGE AND CONTENT (158951)
KIRO 7 is looking for someone with a great passion and understanding for news across all platforms to be its first Manager of Coverage and Content. This person will join a team that dominates breaking news coverage and in-depth story coverage. This person will be responsible for how viewers see KIRO journalism, whether it be digital, social or TV. This individual will make value decision and determine which stories should be placed on which platform. The Manager of Coverage and Content is also responsible for the content of each story and how it is portrayed and will be accountable for mobilizing resources to execute the story. S/he will manage the enrichment of the story to provide the best viewer experience whether it is on digital, social or TV.
The Manager of Coverage and Content is a digital evangelist, someone who gets everyone in the newsroom thinking about stories in a multi-platform way. They are responsible for holding staff in the field accountable for consistent digital execution for each story.
They will work closely with our Executive Producer of Digital, our Managing Editor, and our broadcast EPs to manage great coverage through an awesome team of KIRO 7 journalists making sure that all coverage is in-line with the KIRO 7 brand. S/He should lead the clear and rapid communication of all stories, large and small. The person will manage directly a team of Assignment Editors providing daily direction and support, and provide indirect oversight to a team of Digital Content Producers partnering with the Executive Producer of Digital to manage workflow, content distribution and coverage planning. The person will oversee communication and organization logistics working directly with assignment editors, reporters, photographers, producers (digital and broadcast), managers, and others to cover the news of the day. The Manager of Coverage and Content will participate in the development of strategic digital engagement activities to build upon and drive viewers and users. S/He will use digital research to help determine the direction of content and coverage.
The Manager of Coverage and Content is a team-oriented leader who has demonstrated effective news judgment with the ability to lead the day’s news on all platforms. This person should be a great communicator in all situations and have prior experience in managing change and moving a team through shifting priorities based on business need and viewer behavior and research.
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred with at least 7 years of experience working in a newsroom (preferred). This person should be a constant collaborator who demonstrates leading businesses to success in major news on all platforms and have a proven track-record of effectively communicating news strategy and holding others accountable for execution of a news brand.


NEWS PRODUCER (1511426)
KIRO-TV has an opening for a creative, dynamic producer to join our news staff. This person must be able to take charge of a newscast, make strong news decisions and be able to coordinate many live shots and handle breaking news like a pro. This producer must be flexible and be able to write strong copy for TV and the web if necessary, coordinate with reporters and produce a newscast that is showcased. Qualified applicant should have a degree in broadcasting or related field and experience producing local television news.

DIRECTOR (1514226)
KIRO-TV is looking for an Ignite Director who will also produce content for KIRO-TV’s digital platforms. Applicants must be comfortable directing in a fast paced, live television environment and be able to oversee all technical aspects of live broadcast. The applicant must be able to adapt quickly to changes and communicate clearly with staff and news management. The individual also must be willing and able to learn how to contribute to KIRO-TV’s digital platforms including kirotv.com.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct live news broadcasts through the use of Grass Valley’s Ignite
  • Maintain the upkeep of production studio
  • Oversee and direct content for KIRO-TV’s digital platform
  • Transfer elements into Airspeed servers for playback
  • Recognize and be able to troubleshoot problems with:
    • Ignite
    • Vinten Robotics
    • iNEWS
    • Chyron Hego
  • Post stories to KIRO-TV’s digital platforms, including proofreading copy
  • Maintain a positive, cooperative and professional attitude at all times

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year television news experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the Ignite system or similar system preferred but not required
  • Live directing and/or switching experience and knowledge of switcher concepts helpful


REPORTER/ANCHOR (146312)
KIRO 7 is looking for an experienced anchor with a passion for reporting. An anchor at this station must be able to drive the KIRO 7 brand on-air, on-line, and on social media. The Anchor/Reporter who comes to KIRO 7 will join a newsroom of experienced journalists working in America’s most beautiful city. The assignment editor is required to write and post breaking news stories to the newsroom website, KIROTV.com. This position will also be responsible for publishing social media updates to KIRO’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. The assignment editor must work well with other managers in achieving newsroom goals. Qualified applicants must demonstrate leadership. Other requirements include the ability to multi-task, strong computer skills, good news judgment, and ability to clearly communicate. Experience on major market assignment desk and some college is preferred. Knowledge of the Puget Sound region’s geography, politics and history is a definite plus.

WRITER (PART-TIME) (1511425)
KIRO-TV is looking for a part-time News Writer. Qualified candidates must have a college degree. Prior experience in broadcast television is strongly preferred. This provides an opportunity for ambitious, hardworking candidates to be trained in newscast production. Applicants must be willing to work any shift.

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER (1411393)
Manages show producers and writers. The EP crafts the look, manages story count, flow and placement of every story. They set the coverage expectation and manage repetition. The EP manages our position and brand on a daily basis in every show. The EP manages breaking news and the speed and style in which we get it on the air. Assists in managing the schedules, hiring and firing of all writers and producers.
JOB DUTIES:
90% - Newscast & Brand Management
10% - Administrative
JOB TASKS:
Newscast & Brand Management – 90%
Crafts newscast look by working with the graphics department.
Manages story count and placement. Must be intimate with the rundown. Manage story count vs. big story coverage.
Copy edits all copy in the newscast. Ensures that it is on target with the research.
Set the coverage expectation by holding meetings with producers and conducting newscast critiques.
Manage repetition within newscasts and from newscast to newscast.
Ensures the product stays on brand. Holds producers accountable on story selection and ensures anchors and meteorologists stay on target with delivery
Manages breaking news. Ensures that we are on the air quickly. Monitors the execution in the control room. Facilitates drills to ensure talent is up to speed.
Holds writing seminars and trains new employees.
Administrative – 10%
Assists in scheduling, hiring, firing of all writers and producers.

NEWS ASSISTANT (PART-TIME) (1514390)
This position assists producers and writers with ensuring the newscast gets on the air smoothly. General responsibilities include: printing, ripping and separating scripts, and operation of the teleprompter for live newscasts.
Applicants must have a positive, professional attitude. Some broadcast experience is preferred.

CLIENT SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE (1514359)
KIRO-TV is looking for a Client Service Representative (CSR) who will be responsible for assisting the Local Account Executives. This will include but is not limited to: contract order entry, recapping campaigns through pre and post logs and posts, providing duplicate invoices, monitoring adjacencies on a weekly basis, filling dub requests, pulling clips from Volicon, compiling weekly budget reports, and setting up new advertisers in the contracting system. In addition, the CSR will compile qualitative and quantitative data through the use of Kantar and Marshall Marketing. The CSR will also be responsible for backing up the National Sales Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Executive Assistant when they are out of the office.

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE (1510616)
The Account Executive is responsible for generating media revenues for the assigned market to meet or exceed predetermined goals. You will also create revenues by working collaboratively with Local Sales Managers, by making sales presentations and by directly selling to key primary and secondary accounts as assigned. You will service and secure mutually beneficial relationships with various local businesses, agencies or individuals that have a desire to reach their target audience through various advertising channels and services.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage revenue producing relationships with clients and agencies
  • Prospect for new business and build a full pipeline of sales prospects
  • Analyze client marketing goals and develop needs based solutions to achieve them
  • Oversee campaign execution and analysis
  • Provide consultation to sales managers, sales teams and clients
  • Work collaboratively with internal partners to drive revenue
Qualifications 
  • Proven track record of sales success in local media setting
  • BA/BS degree with a minimum of five years of media sales, account management or buying experience
