PT/SP Guest Services and Sales Associate (Metro parks - STAR Center)

CLOSING DATE: Open until filled
HOURLY WAGE: $9.67-12.96/hr (DOQ)
LOCATION: STAR Center, 3873 S. 66th St.
HOURS: approx. 6 – 23 hours per week. Schedule may vary and include weekend and evening work.
SUPERVISOR: Matthew Kerns
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as a parttime/seasonal position and is not eligible for health benefits or paid leave. Enrollment in the WA state retirement system is mandatory. This position is an at-will position with no written or implied contractual agreement.

DUTIES: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide general and specific information to visitors; promote and sell STAR Center memberships, rentals, programs and activities; provide room preparation for programs and rentals; perform a variety of clerical support; greet customers; ensure customers feel at home at STAR Center. Take computerized, in‐person and phone registration; assist customers using self-registration kiosk. Open and close facility. Promote and sell MPT memberships, rentals, programs and activities. Collect and count money and make change. Reconcile till to cash receipt and prepare monies for bank deposits and weekly revenue reports. Perform general clerical duties for center and program staff. Provide information, receive and process requests and complaints and route individuals as appropriate. Be able to adapt as necessary to work with people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, and interests. Some guest service positions may also host and monitor rentals including provide customer support and enforcement of rental rules. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be customer service oriented with a positive and cheerful attitude. Must have excellent customer service skills. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public and fellow staff. Good oral and written communication skills required. 
  • Must have basic computer skills 
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, to include weekends, evenings and holidays, and fill in at different locations when needed. 
  • Ability to perform a variety of responsible clerical duties 
  • Multi lingual skills desirable (i.e. Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Korean, Vietnamese, American Sign and/or Cambodian)

LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employment is subject to a national and/or Washington State Patrol background inquiry pursuant to RCW 43.43.832 
  • Job applicants must be able to prove authorization to work in the United States at the time of a job offer as required by the 1986 Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act. Documentation establishing authorization to work may include a Social Security Card, picture ID and/or other approved documentation. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sight to read and prepare records and reports. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Sitting and operating a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Bending and reaching to retrieve and maintain files. Lifting and carrying boxes and other objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
