Education Curriculum Development and Research Intern

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. The Education Curriculum Development and Research Intern will be responsible for working directly with the education team to research and develop our group visit (field trip) curriculum for school groups for the 2015-2016 school year. In addition, the intern will assist in the development of gallery activities which highlight STEM learning objectives, specifically those relating to energy and alternative fuels. Strong candidates will have experience teaching, knowledge of common core standards, and strong communication skills. Additional knowledge of integrating iPads as platforms for creative learning is desired.
Responsibilities:


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager




1. Develop a strong understanding of the collection, exhibits, and existing K-12 school program curriculum.
2. Assist with the facilitation of the Museum’s education group visits to learn current approach.
3. Research and develop materials for future school year as directed by education staff.
4. Research material for exhibit on STEM learning, energy, and fuels for the future and corresponding curriculum and outreach activities.
5. Connect curriculum to common core standards.
6. Be on time and prepared for shifts, meetings, and appointments.
7. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions with employees, students, and outside contacts.
8. Complete all shift responsibilities as required, both on time and accurately.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:



1. (Required) – Student who is at least 18 years of age.
2. (Required) – The ability to pass ACM’s in-depth background investigation including criminal history and personal references.
3. (Required) – Must be able to work for a minimum of 80 hours over at least 12 weeks.
4. (Required) – Fluent in the use of the English language.
5. (Required) – Strong research and writing/typing skills.
6. (Required) – Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe, Web browsers, and data management.
7. (Required) – Excellent organization skills including neatness.
8. (Required) – Professional communication and teamwork skills.
9. (Required) – Exceptional character, honesty, integrity, and professional boundaries. Personal conduct which compromises any of these qualities is cause for termination of internship.
10. (Required) – A strong work ethic and positive, solution focused attitude.
11. (Required) – Professional interpersonal skills that include a tactful, gracious and courteous demeanor that facilitates excellence in public relations, employee relations, and student / school relations.
12. (Required) – Ability to stand/walk or sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
13. (Required) – Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently.
14. (Preferred) - Strong knowledge of state and national Common Core Curriculum Standards.

Education Resource Center (Library) Intern

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. The Education department is also responsible for the Museum’s Education Resource Center (ERC), a collection of books, periodicals, and print materials showcasing the history and development of the automobile. Materials in the ERC are in the early process of being cataloged and organized. The Education Resource Center Intern will focus on cataloguing items into our FileMaker Pro software. This intern will also assist with developing the scope and organization of the library along with processing donations of new materials. Strong candidates will have an attention to detail and experience with computer programs, basic library cataloguing, and resource organization. Additional experience working with library collections and information science in desired.


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager




1. Organize and catalogue collection into FileMaker Pro.
2. Import data from existing excel files and/or generate new templates and fields.
3. Assist with ERC tracking and processing of donations.
4. Assist with plans for the development, usage, and growth of the Education Resource Center.
5. Work with Education Manager and other department volunteers to develop ERC procedures and policies.
6. Be on time and prepared for shifts, meetings, and appointments.

Education Youth and Family Programs Intern

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. Our Youth and Family Programs Interns will assist with summer camp, group visits, Family STEM days, and our Family Zone. From marketing to facilitation, interns assist with both preparation and execution of various Education Department programs. Interns lead education group tour visits, workshops, and facilitate informal learning experiences in our Family Zone and galleries. Interns may also assist with administrative duties and developing outreach opportunities. Strong candidates will have experience teaching, good customer service and communication skills, and enjoy engaging all ages. Additional knowledge of iPads and use of applications in creative learning is desired.


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager

6. Assist with securing and maintaining Education program supplies.
7. Outreach to schools, families, and adults to promote ACM’s educational programs and activities.
8. Be on time and prepared for shifts, meetings, and appointments.
9. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions with employees, students, and outside contacts.
10. Complete all shift responsibilities as required, both on time and accurately.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
