DESCRIPTION:
The Opportunity: The Washington State Ferries (WSF) Communications Manager assists in the development and implementation of all strategic communications programs to fulfill the mission, vision and values of the organization, including internal and external communications and media relations. This position helps to identify significant public relations risks, opportunities and generating messaging. Manages consultant teams and directs project resources for new terminal and vessel projects. Is a spokesperson with the media and works closely with WSDOT
Communications department and Government relations. This position will relay accurate, timely and strategic information using a variety of communication tools and resources.
Work with a professional team to create crisis communications, social media communications and media strategies. This supervisory position will also liaison with other agencies when developing joint communications strategies and plans. Experience in crisis communications, web communications and writing, social media, public outreach, media relations, giving presentations and developing and training staff is crucial. Our top candidate has experience building trust with external customers, communities, elected officials and employees.
This position will perform the following work:
Team with the Public Information Officer (PIO) to determine most effective and strategic communications tools to communicate a variety of message types, both internally and externally.
Create and implement immediate communication strategies WSF mission, vision and values Develop strategies to successfully mitigate emerging issues that will present pro-active communications.
Assists in the development of pre-emptive messaging, media relations and public information relating to WSF.
An ideal candidate for this position will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Administration or related field. Prior experience in a leadership role in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing Five years’ experience and demonstrated competency in managing communications projects, media relations and leading staff.
Extensive knowledge of the media and organizing public outreach in the area of public policies and projects.
Experience developing and implementing strategic, customer-focused communication plans.
Experience in writing, public speaking, developing presentations, and marketing plans.
Ability to be on call 24 hours per day for emergencies.
Demonstrated writing abilities using various social media experience.
