Interns will have the opportunity to deliver interactive educational workshops in the field, classroom, and professional setting.

14 month Environmental Science Internship - Caribbean

*CARIBBEAN ISLAND seeks eco academic for multi-faceted 14 MONTH internship*

We are looking for the right dynamic personality to fill a multifaceted office position with eventual dive leadership responsibilities. Sea Saba Dive Center is located on the famous diving destination island of Saba in the Dutch Caribbean (28 miles from St. Maarten). The island offers great rainforest hiking, a small village and community appeal while attracting an eclectic international group of people. The chosen candidate will have 2 job descriptions with time split as needed.  Daily tasks at Sea Saba's office/retail center include daily coordination of divers and logistics, basic accounting, customer service, and visual merchandising.  Further, the right candidate will take over as the 2016 event coordinator for the annual *Sea & Learn on Saba *program after experiencing the 2015 event as an intern.

 What we are looking for:

-          20-30 year old diver who is passionate about the environment

-          Minimum Rescue Diver certified or above

-          Eager to learn or improve skills from administrative to event
management, grant writing, customer service and visual merchandizing

-          Person with excellent English writing and research skills (any
additional languages are a plus)

-          General office skills, proficient in all Microsoft Office
programs

-          Must be interested and willing to become Divemaster

-          Minimum 14 month contract

-          Preference will be given to Dutch or American citizens. Any
other nationalities will need the financial means to pay $ 800 for a residence permit (valid for one year).

-          Must be on Saba by September 20th, 2015 and depart not sooner
than November 15th, 2016

Internship
Intern will learn how to undertake design, study and field implementation of park and open space projects. Most of the work will be geared toward assisting the Metro Parks Tacoma Urban Forester on attaching signs to trees located at Wright Park Arboretum. In addition, the intern will work closely with the Forester on helping develop interruptive signage for Wright Park Arboretum. The intern will also learn about and promote open space and urban forestry conservation practices.
Qualifications
* Strong interest in pursuing a career in urban forestry or other related environmental science.
* Proficiency in (or ability to quickly learn) tree and shrub identification.
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
* Read and interpret accurately difficult and complex material; collect, compile and objectively analyze data; write clear and concise reports; potentially including experience using GIS or other tracking systems.

Education Curriculum Development and Research Intern

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. The Education Curriculum Development and Research Intern will be responsible for working directly with the education team to research and develop our group visit (field trip) curriculum for school groups for the 2015-2016 school year. In addition, the intern will assist in the development of gallery activities which highlight STEM learning objectives, specifically those relating to energy and alternative fuels. Strong candidates will have experience teaching, knowledge of common core standards, and strong communication skills. Additional knowledge of integrating iPads as platforms for creative learning is desired.
Responsibilities:


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager




1. Develop a strong understanding of the collection, exhibits, and existing K-12 school program curriculum.
2. Assist with the facilitation of the Museum’s education group visits to learn current approach.
3. Research and develop materials for future school year as directed by education staff.
4. Research material for exhibit on STEM learning, energy, and fuels for the future and corresponding curriculum and outreach activities.
5. Connect curriculum to common core standards.
6. Be on time and prepared for shifts, meetings, and appointments.
7. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions with employees, students, and outside contacts.
8. Complete all shift responsibilities as required, both on time and accurately.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. The Education department is also responsible for the Museum’s Education Resource Center (ERC), a collection of books, periodicals, and print materials showcasing the history and development of the automobile. Materials in the ERC are in the early process of being cataloged and organized. The Education Resource Center Intern will focus on cataloguing items into our FileMaker Pro software. This intern will also assist with developing the scope and organization of the library along with processing donations of new materials. Strong candidates will have an attention to detail and experience with computer programs, basic library cataloguing, and resource organization. Additional experience working with library collections and information science in desired.


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager




1. Organize and catalogue collection into FileMaker Pro.
2. Import data from existing excel files and/or generate new templates and fields.
3. Assist with ERC tracking and processing of donations.

JOB SUMMARY: LeMay-America’s Car Museum’s Education Interns are instrumental in providing outstanding programs for Museum visitors, students, educators, and informal learning groups. Our Youth and Family Programs Interns will assist with summer camp, group visits, Family STEM days, and our Family Zone. From marketing to facilitation, interns assist with both preparation and execution of various Education Department programs. Interns lead education group tour visits, workshops, and facilitate informal learning experiences in our Family Zone and galleries. Interns may also assist with administrative duties and developing outreach opportunities. Strong candidates will have experience teaching, good customer service and communication skills, and enjoy engaging all ages. Additional knowledge of iPads and use of applications in creative learning is desired.


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Education Manager

3. (Required) – Must be able to work for a minimum of 80 hours over at least 12 weeks.

6. (Required) – Intermediate to advance skills in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe, Web browsers, and data management.
7. (Required) – Excellent organization skills including neatness.
8. (Required) – Professional communication and teamwork skills.
9. (Required) – Exceptional character, honesty, integrity, and professional boundaries. Personal conduct which compromises any of these qualities is cause for termination of internship.
10. (Required) – A strong work ethic and positive, solution focused attitude.
11. (Required) – Professional interpersonal skills that include a tactful, gracious and courteous demeanor that facilitates excellence in public relations, employee relations, and student / school relations.
12. (Required)- Ability to project voice and speak to large groups without the aid of amplification.
13. (Required) – Ability to stand/walk or sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
14. (Required) – Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently.
15. (Preferred) - Experience in museums, classroom teaching, and historical interpretation.
16. (Preferred) – An appreciation of the automobile and its role throughout American Society.
17. (Preferred) – Knowledge of integrating iPads into educational activities and working knowledge of Mac systems.
