Bates is a technical college providing instruction in fields as divers as Business Administration, Con-struction, and Wholesale and Retail Services. They also provide continuing education and high school completion courses for those who need it for em-ployment This position is contingent on funding.
Member Duties : Coordinates with faculty in re-gards to their needs from the tutoring center. Also responsible for marketing the services offered by the Bates Tutoring Center to the Bates student body. Tracks students use of the Tutoring Center and tracks student progress. Provides tutoring to youth, adults, and ESL students in subjects from pre-GED and GED studies/Adult Basic Education through college-level Math and English required to complete job skills training programs. Responsible for rental equipment check-out to students. All AmeriCorps members at Tacoma Goodwill are required to help organize and participate in team service projects one weekend per month.

Tacoma Community House seeks an AmeriCorps member to assist in the Read2Me Program in four local elementary schools. Read2Me is a one-on-one adult/student reading program for struggling first, second, and third grade readers. Duties include facilitating monthly workshops for tutors, scheduling students and tutors, producing monthly newsletters, recruiting volunteer tutors, researching best practices for tutoring strategies and tutor training, tracking student success, and helping to recruit and retain volunteers, and tutoring. You must be 18-25 years of age at the start date of service (Sep 1, 2015-Jul 15, 2016).

Tacoma Community House seeks an AmeriCorps member to serve closely with the employment staff to develop and conduct work-readiness workshops for youth and adult participants. Duties include assisting adult and youth participants with on-line job search, resumes, and applications, helping to create curriculum for employment workshops, and mentoring youth in the Career Pathways Program. You must be 18-25 years of age at the start date of service (Sep 1, 2015).

Act Six: NLF’s Act Six program works to provide college access for urban students to higher education through leadership development, college preparation and vocational connections in order to inspire and equip emerging leaders. AmeriCorps member will: recruit potential scholars and promote scholarship in local high schools and community events; participate directly in all phase of selection process of scholars; assist training facilitator on weekly trainings. 1 position available.

Trinity Presbyterian Church: Provide academic support and mentoring relationships to local middle school students attending Jason Lee Middle School. Positions will include targeted in-class support to students, and provide mentoring, tutoring and assisting in the daily operations of a community-based Learning Center. 3 positions available.

MDC’s College Bound: Funded by the Department of Education to help motivate and prepare low-income, first generation students for college. Duties include: assist with college readiness programming (admissions/financial aid applications, college visits, workshops), informal mentoring of students, monitoring academic progress of students, recruiting new students to the program, and

FASFA forms and general college preparation. 1 position available.

Pierce Conservation District: The PCD helps landowners manage natural resources on forest and agricultural land, riparian areas, fish and wildlife sites and other types of rural and urban areas. Duties include: student engagement program, data collection, data entry, preparation of clean water stream kits, outreach/engagement programs, and volunteer program assistance. 1 position available.

The Rescue Mission: TRM’s Family Shelter provides emergency housing and a loving community for homeless families in Tacoma. Members will: provide support to the Family Shelter afterschool program including mentoring, tutoring, enrichment activities, field trips and a nutritious snack; coordinate volunteers, tutors and mentors for the youth program. Ages range from toddler to 18 years old, support for all age groups is needed. A focus on education and providing educational support for these students/youth is a main priority. 3 positions available.

City of Tacoma: The City of Tacoma position, with assistance from the Healthy Homes, Healthy Neighborhood

Management Team, will develop appropriate educational materials. They will conduct personal outreach through a variety of strategies, including door-to-door conversations. Detailed accounts of each interaction and follow up with the appropriate service or program provider will be kept. Engage with existing community groups, including churches, and schools. 1 position avlaible.

WSU Tech Wizards: 4-H helps young people learn and grow through an intentional process that builds competence, confidence, connection, compassion, and character. This position is mainly responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Tech Wizards program. They will also support the efforts of other 4-H programming throughout the year. The purpose of Tech Wizards is to get youth interested in science careers, build science literacy, foster positive youth development, and support the pursuit of post-secondary education. 1 position available.

Foundation for Tacoma Students: Members will further the mission of FFTS to improve student success of Tacoma students and build school-community connections. Member will work to develop a full service school model at First Creek Middle School. This will include working directly with high-risk youth, community residents and service providers on the Eastside of Tacoma. Additionally member will conduct outreach and communication amongst project partners, students and community members. 1 position available.

Urban Grace Church: Urban Grace Church serves the homeless and those living in transition in the heart of Tacoma. Duties include community outreach, Phoenix Housing collaboration, assistance with youth programming, Homeless Connect assistance with logistics and planning and much more! 1 position available.

School of the Arts: The Tacoma School of the Arts and the Science and Math Institute is built around a particular vision: they believe that students make the most of their learning when they take ownership of their education- when students intentionally choose to take on the challenge real learning entails. They believe that this ownership most naturally develops within a learning community, encouraged by others who share that commitment. Member will: coordinate a school-wide tutoring program (the BRIDGE Program) at the Science and Math Institute (SAMI), as well as work to expand the program to include SAMI, SOTA, Stewart. 1 position available.

Pacific Lutheran University, Hope Scholars: Hope Scholars is specifically for students who frequent the Diversity Center and The Cave (first and second year commuter lounges). This program is to develop and foster academic and co-curricular leadership skills, relationships across the University for academic and psychological support, and engage and explore issues of social justice and change. 1 position.
